SUMMER WITH SYF

Each summer, we offer several week-long programs. Rehearsals are held outdoors, in a local park in the District 10 community. As with all our programs, no student is turned away for inability to pay.

Programs include:
—Shakespeare Intensive
Elementary and middle school-aged students spend a week immersed in Shakespeare and performance. We structure our explorations around a theme, and each week concludes with a public recital, complete with costumes!! Past themes include Shakespeare & Magic; Shakespeare & Mythology; All in the Family; Shakespeare & Nature; Mavericks, Rebels & Trailblazers; and more.
—Renaissance Week
At the beginning of the summer, our high school students gather for one session to read and discuss the chosen play, and to receive their roles and scripts. In late July, they meet on Monday, rehearse all week, and present a full production on Friday and Saturday. We replicate as closely as possible the norms of the original productions in Shakespeare’s day – the production is outdoors, with audience and actors fully visible to one another, and rather than giving full artistic authority to a director, the actors work collaboratively to develop the production.

Registration begins in late February.
