SHAKESPEARE AND MUSIC – GREEN SPACE

SHAKESPEARE AND MUSIC – GREEN SPACE

One week in the open air is just not enough. We just got started … so let’s take a second week outside in the wide open park of Kenneth Hahn – to create and listen to… the sound of music!

LISTENING EXPERIENCES

We play excerpts from the best operas, ballets and musicals, inspired by Shakespeare, composing our own movement pieces in response.

  • Mendelssohn – A Midsummer Night’s Dream Wedding March
  • Danish composer Niel Gade – Hamlet Overture
  • Prokofiev – Romeo and Juliet
  • Dvořák – Othello Overture
  • Verdi – Macbeth
  • William Walton – Henry V
  • West Side Story, Kiss Me Kate, Boys From Syracuse, Something Rotten

MOVEMENT EXPERIENCES

  • We will learn a traditional 16th Century Dance, applying to music above.
  • We will explode out of structure and do freestyle movement juxtaposed against Renaissance style music.

ACTING EXPERIENCES (Scenes & Song with live instruments supporting)

  • Two Gentleman of Verona
  • Antony and Cleopatra
  • Cymbeline
  • Othello
