THE DROP-IN OPTION – We will reserve spaces each week for those who would like to drop in for a single class, rather than sign up for a session. Sign-ups will open 10 days before the class, and will run until the class is full, so you have the option to sign up for 1 or 2 weeks at a time.

You’ll dig deep into a Shakespearean scene, under the direction of one of our fabulous teaching artists. We’ll combine character-building exercises with intensive scene study, incorporate costumes and props, and culminate in a live-streamed virtual performance.

All Things You: Restorative Theatre

A weekly gathering for those who might benefit from a brave sanctuary where all sides of your humanity can be expressed, addressed and released. Through dialogue and theatre games, we explore a variety of topics, including: Relationships, identity, self-image, handling the unknown. And through the globally recognized techniques of Agosto Boal, we develop the Courage to take positive actions on behalf of others and ourselves.

Improbable Fiction: Playwriting Workshops

PLAYWRITING – Level I
This 4-week workshop is jam packed with brain-clearing writing exercises, inspiring prompts – examples include: fearless writing, music as inspiration, creative partnerships, different stages of theatre-making, a play’s form, developing your writer’s voice – leading to the creation of a short play (10 minutes or less)  We will conclude with a virtual performance of all the plays.

PLAYWRITING – Level II
Borrowing from the best playwright’s rituals, we’ll take our writing to the next level. Exercises will be aimed at generating ideas and moving them onto the page. The point is to encourage the emergence of the subconscious and weave it into our work. We’ll also explore what goes into writing a First Draft versus revising a Draft, and will conclude with a presentation featuring virtual “readings” of all the plays.
Prerequisite: Level One, a previous LADC/SYF Playwriting Workshop, or permission from the instructor.
